Fudao Forest Walkway

A free, 19-kilometer elevated steel walkway through downtown Fuzhou’s forest canopy: barrier-free, non-commercial, and connecting five urban parks.

Urban Trail Fuzhou $ Family Friendly
Duration
1 to 3 hours

Fudao is China’s first elevated urban forest walkway — a 19-kilometer suspended steel pathway weaving through the canopy of three downtown mountain parks. Designed by Singapore’s LOOK Architects and opened in 2018, it connects five parks (Zuohai, Meifeng Mountain, Jinniu Mountain Sports, Jinniu Mountain, and Guoguang) with gentle gradients that never exceed 1:16, making the entire route barrier-free.

The walkway is non-commercial and free to enter, with multiple access points, rest shelters, viewing decks, and observation towers along the route. It offers a striking perspective on Fuzhou’s relationship with its urban greenery — a modern counterpoint to the old-lane heritage of Sanfang Qixiang and a good option for travelers who want physical movement without leaving the city center.

Practical Tips

Pick a section rather than the full 19 km

Most visitors walk a 3-5 km section. The Jinniu Mountain segment has the best viewing decks.

Best in morning or late afternoon

The steel walkway heats up in midday sun. Early morning or golden-hour walks are more comfortable and photogenic.
